Windows 7 vs vista network file sharing?

Hi. I just baught a new laptop and decided to get windows 7 on it.
So far everything is great, i love how it looks and all works fine. Seting up wlan and all was no problem.
THE problem is... well with both old pcs (one pc one laptop) we had home network (or whatever network) set up so i could copy the files from sisters pc to my lappy and the other way around.

So now i have windows 7 on the new laptop.
And Vista on my old laptop (Vista 32 bit SP1)

And 0 idea what or where and how to do so i can share the files and get em from my old laptop on the new one... Flash is all fine and dandy but 100+Gb is a bit too much to be transfering with a 2Gb flash card <_< (old lappy does not have Bluetooth either btw...)

Are there any tutorials perhaps on how to get this done or at least ideas?
I speak well english, but i guess it aint good enough to know what exactly to look for in net, cuz i tried exploring but couldnt find anything useful

all drives are shared by default, to administrators. (EDIT - actually you might need to enable this http://www.softwaretipspalace.com/MS...tive-share.php ) Then you connect like

    \\IP_ADDRESS\C$ in Windows Explorer

to connect to the C: drive of another computer.

If the admin shares are disabled, you could also just right-click on the drive and go properties -> Sharing. Share the drive to the "Everyone" group.

If you have any more questions, just let me know.

The Everyone group does not open if i put that for specific files heres the screenshot of how it looks...

Both laptops only see them self in network area....

So i did the changes on the vista lappy in the registry.
I aint good with this kind of stuff... so step by step what do i do now?
I need to acess the files in The Vista laptop From the Win7 laptop....

if you enable the registry tweak above and reboot, you should be able to access the drives so long as each computer has the same user/password account and both are in the same Workgroup.

go to My Computer, in the address bar type

    \\computer_name\c$ [PRESS ENTER]

where computer_name is the hostname or IP address of the Vista computer.

    What happens?

This is partly why you are having difficulties with my method. You are using the computer insecurely. Having no username and password means you cannot have Admin access to shares (because windows does not accept blank passwords over the network as a security measure).

Ok so i should put a pass on both laptops then?
The changes to registry on vista lappy and reboot made the win7 lappy see the shared folders but it does not let me acess them says i dont have permission.
Password protected sharing is off, on vista lapy i checked the network n sharing center. Should i swich that to on then?

You have a few options. All of which are annoying (thanks Microsoft ), so bear with me.

You can either create the same username and password on each computer and login using that account. Or you can try your damnedest to enable guest access. Sometimes it requires enabling the Guest account, sometimes it doesn't. It depends on your current configuration.

mmmm lasagna sounds great right about now

Homegroup is the word you're looking for.

There are so many solutions it isn't even funny anymore. I wish Microsoft would just make something everyone could understand.

Their moto shd be "one problem and millions of solutions that do not work"

Speaking of solutions the puting same username and pass trick didnt work, il try puting file sharing under a pass now... this sucks... ><

How does crating a usergroup work oO this is terrible i need my files >.<
