Couple questions(syncing, exchange, windows 7 diff versions) Hi
I have a work laptop and a home computer.
My home computer has Windows 7 ultimate 32 bit edition.
My work laptop has Windows 7 enterprise 64 bit edition.
Right now I bring my laptop every day home with me and it kinda sucks as it is heavy.
When thinking about it I have most programs already installed on my home computer except for a couple
Outlook 2007
office comunicator 2007 R2
That's basically it.
So I am thinking if I can get a couple things setup I don't need to bring my laptop home anymore.
Both of those programs use exchange so am I able to set something like that up on my home computer? I can connect at home to my companies VPN so I should be able to get exchange information???
The next problem is I usually place documents and stuff on my desktop. My company does give me some network storage so I could store them on there but if I could have my desktop syncing with either this network storage or desktop to desktop that would be great.
Like say if I have place a document on my desktop it would automatically put it in the storage drive.
Or if I could have my home computer desktop always sync with my laptop that would be good do.
Of course if I did it from desktop to desktop I can't have the files stored on a 3rd party server since I have to think about that being hacked and losing important work documents that could be bad if they get out(like me maybe losing my job).
Also that probably means I would have to leave the laptop 24/7 on and I don't know if that would be good for it the laptop.
I also lose one my security messages(my laptop is encrypted with truecrypt on bootup).
If it is just on 24/7 then it would be at the windows screen.
The other plus is if something would happen and my laptop is on I guess I could remote desktop on it.
As you can see I have lots to think about but I really want to try to get my home computer setup as close as to what my laptop is setup as so that I don't have to take it home every day just for that off chance that I need to work from home because of some unexpected reason. |
