Hi and need to set up sharing

    Hi everyone.

I am attempting to share files between Win 7 HP and XP Home. Both PCs can ping each other. The XP folders have the hand holding the file icon. How do I actually send the file across the network?

    Welcome JerzyDevil,

Which computer do you want to copy From and to which destination computer & folder ?

What type of network did you setup on the win7 computer, did you enable file sharing, etc ?

I am not sure the network is working. The pinging works, what is the next step on the Win 7 PC to set up the network?

You need to go into control panel, then networking, & set up a network where both computers are on the same workgroup name. Do Not setup a HomeGroup network as this will not work well between win7 & XP computers.

I clicked on Control Panel>Network and sharing> Set up a new connection or network>Set up a new network. A wireless router or access point box appears, but nothing else happens.
