we have 2 simple problems in server

    hi
we have 2 simple problmes in server of our company that make us a little angry
first of all we have Windows 2003 server for server and other employees use Windows xp for theryr jobs but in our office we use Windows 7.

1: at first when we try to findout some folders in the server with RUN:\\server the speed is so down and some time take as long as 2 min, and again it takes for other jobs. but in the other side with windows xp it just take 2 sec.
but some times we can use as fast as xp.

i try this problem with another computers and this is for real and its true
also there is no proble with firewall cous i test it
and the proble is same in the both of domain computers and workgroups. (i tested it)

2:well we have this one only in workgroup.

when we use same command (RUN:\\server) in some of our windows we need to take user and password for loging in ande use our acces that we have.but the problem is the other wwindows dont user or pass will asked
and we can connect without user or pass and we can see the folders but we cant acces them.
i think the problem is in the setting in the difrent computers . the thing that i need to know is the setting to fix this(i need the windows ask me for login)
(the windowses arent installed with came disces)

i hope someone can help me cous its very important for us

    Thank you .

I'll address this point by point. Also, no offense, I realize English isn't likely your native language, but please slow down, and try to give me detail. The more information you can give me in simple words, the better I can help you.

Is this in a domain or a workgroup setting? My guessing is that you're having difficulty with security somewhere. Windows 7 is a LOT pickier about security management than Windows XP was. They're very different animals from this standpoint. I would examine the credentials in who/what you've allowed to access shares, and perhaps try allowing one of the W7 machines full control of a directory that's shared, and see if that remedies the problem.

Secondly, when you're saying firewall, what firewall? Are we talking about the firewall that's on the W7 machine? On the 2003 server? Or even your firewall protecting your network from the outside world?

When you say "other windows" what're you referring to? It's difficult for me to assist with this problem without further information, unless I want to just starting speculative, and I don't.

    hamedkhatar- Welcome to SF,

    For issue No. 1
It seems to be a possible DNS issue. Make sure that your server has DNS configured correctly. The DNS IP of the Windows Server 2003 shd be a Private IP pointing to the Server itself, for ex 192.168.1.2 and that all Client Computers have DHCP enabled and communicating with the your DNS Server. Make sure that you're not using an External (Public) DNS Addresses.

Please post an ipconfig /all of your Server and 1 Client computer for analysis.

    For issue No.2
Create Identical UserNames and Passwords on both machines (Server and Client).
