Can not save files to altenate PCs

Try to Turn Off Password Protected Sharing.

Go to Control Panel->Network and Sharing Center ->Change Advanced Sharing Settings and in Password Protected Sharing select Turn off Password Protected Sharing

You are missing the setting of share permissions. Easiest way is to go to network and sharing and setup a homegroup [use desktop to be primary homegroup comp and then provide info to laptops. part of that will ask what you want to share. After that go in to My Computer C:\Users\<username> and then right click on the folder you want to share [My Docs for this example] right click My Documents and choose sharing... [or properties if sharing not seen and click sharing tab when window opens]. If you have sharing wizard turned on [default] click Share with... and you should see Nobody [obvious] HomeGroup [read] and Homegroup [Read/Write] If you dont see homegroup options listed go in to Network and sharing control panel and enable homegroup first then the options appear]. Well obviously easiest thing to do is use the computer with Win 7 64-bit [a real comp not a laptop] and create [or change to a new homegroup if you need to] and run through giving all other comps the homegroup info provided so you have a homegroup all set on a tower comp that never leaves [and not a laptop that may not be available to run homegroup when needed]. Then choose Homegroup (Read/Write) on all folders you want to share and that will ensure the person has to have a user account on one of the computers before they are allowed to see the shared info [this is gathered from their profile information and they will not have to put in a username or password it will just open like any other folder [of course unless the network dies ]. Harder: forget it the homegroup option will have you all set. Even if you have a domain laptop it should notice the different network and allow workgroup/homegroup functionality when connected at home. Last, I believe only Win 7 Pro and above can HOST a Homegroup. Home Group also allows sharing of printers, and other devices as well as files. Let me know if you get lost on any of this happy to explain anything needed and forget the harder way this will work and be secure as well. LAST LAST thing [of course you can add any comps to your homegroup at anytime [ie a friend comes over and you want to share files just go through adding them to your homegroup and viola].
