"The DNS servier isn't responding" error- Win 7

I am losing my internet connection every 10 or 15 minutes and when I run the troubleshooter, the error I get is "The DNS server isn't responding". It is down for 2 or 3 minutes and then comes back up again.

I have reset the router (Dlink DIR-655) but it doesn't help for long, if at all. I have tried the flushdns/registerdns, etc ipconfig commands, but nothing is helping. I have Win7 Home Premium 64 bit. Any help is greatly appreciated!

I could be your IPS's DNS server is having issues, try changing your Local DNS addresses to 208.67.222.222 and 208.67.220.220, these are the OpenDNS servers. It will at least help identify where the issue resides. Let me know if you still experience connectivity issues after changing over.

I changed it several hours ago and have not had a disconnect since then. The weird thing is that the other laptop we are using is not having any problems, but both of our iphones were. When my laptop would disconnect, I checked my iphone and it was having connectivity issues too. I am going to check the other laptop and see if it already had the DNS settings changed, as it is a work issued laptop.

Yes, if the work laptop had a static address pointing to another DNS server that would explain the reason it is able maintain a connection, let me know how it goes. In the meantime i would stay with OpenDNS, it is a great alternative to ISP provided DNS!

It would probably be best if you created a new topic, clearly state what problem your having, while providing as much information as possible. I would be glad to help. :)
