    Unidentified Network!

    So,

I just got a new Samsung QX410. It connects fine to wireless networks, but now I'm trying to connect it to my work network via ethernet so I can print and share files about.

I have the laptop connected via a dynex hub that is shared by one other xp machine, that connects fine to the internet.

The NIC is a Marvell Yukon 88E8059 Family PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet Controller

I'm having the issue where I just have an unidentified public network with no connectivity.

    Here is what I've tried:

Stopping the Bonjour Service (not exactly what that is, but I found it in the forums)
Attempted to change it to a private network by renaming the network.
Changed the workgroup to the same as all the other pcs at the office.
Plugging directly into the wall as opposed to the hub.
Turning it off and on again!

    Things I haven't tried yet:

Changing the NIC drivers (I did double check to see if there were updates, but both windows AND the samsung autoupdater said they were the newest version)

I haven't tried a wired connection outside of work.

Also, I did find in some forums that you can tweak some settings in the Local Security Policy Editor, but as I have Home Premium, this isn't an option for me.

Any help you can give me would be great, sorry if this is a repeat post, but I tried scouring the forums and didn't find anything that worked.

Try disabling the Windows Firewall, see if that allows you to connect. If yes then need to figure out how to allow the Ethernet connection through the firewall.

Control Panel, Windows Firewall, Turn Windows Firewall on or off.
