Dual Boot

Not sure where to post this question:
I have a Win 7 Laptop and I wanted to put XP in as a dual boot. All is ok but XP will not connect to the Internet / Are all the drivers I need on my xp cd?
When I start I press F12 to select , win & goes online but XP will not and even the wizard says it is unable to connect?

Thanks for any info,
Razz.

ah, not having an internet connection (due to the drivers) is rather a pain when trying to get to the drivers. try booting into the other OS and going on the system manufacturer's site to get the network drivers (HP Pavilion dv9700 Entertainment Notebook PC series*-* Download drivers and software - specify product name - HP Business Support Center choose which one is your product number code thing). then put them on a memory stick and run the .exe setup for them in XP. then navigate to the folder the hp installer has put it in and run the driver setup.

(with my hp laptop the 'special' part of the code is stuck onto the front are just below the keyboard. if not, probably on the bottom or under the battery)

That's ok. Hope it works
(if HP offer you drivers for different OSes, remember to choose the XP ones despite being in Windows 7 at the time)

Pretty much, yeah. Some of them may have different versions, for example some models may have had realtek audio, some may have had nvidia audio (as a hypothetical example) so make sure you grab the right ones. I find it good practice to get all (of the relevant ones) so, yeah.
Just a note, when it comes to running the file in XP, the HP thing seems to basically be unzipping the file. It will dump the files in the (changeable) place it listed, sou you'll have to navigate your way there and do a bit of guesswork which of the many unzipped files to run ;P
I would recommend you change the name of the unzipping folders from the codes to something more meaningful such as 'audio' or 'network'.

Finding drivers is always a pain. Once you have all your drivers where they should be I'd make a backup of them
BooZet Freeware | Double Driver - backup and restore installed drivers
software found here will back up your drivers based on what is included with windows and what isn't, you can even pack them all into a single executable file. This way if you ever need to reinstall you have all the drivers at hand. I've used this a bunch of times when reloading an OS from scratch, it's a huge time saver.
