How to use Taskkill to force Windows to stop networks connection..etc.

I have two connection types. A dial-up for just checking mail and stuff. And a mobile dsl for downloading and stuff. Sometimes when my dial-up internet connection goes flaky it really is hard to get a connection. Now I have to switch to the dsl mobile connection. So I have to disconnect.

But even I have disconnected the 'Network icon' goes on and on..seems like forever. Logging off still takes forever even force program option prior log-off.

I encountered this "Taskkill" via the cmd>tasklist and is quite useful especially when Task Manager cannot terminate a process effectively. I used this on VLC Media Player when it seems to go on forever trying to read a DVD he doesn't particularly like.

Now I know this can work on network connections. Problem is I just do not know how. I do not know the particular process to kill.

(a) How may I do that?

Can someone help me here please.

Also, I see that Windows 7 always check for available networks when the desktop comes up after the Welcome screen. Now I am not connected to a network as this is a home-personal pc. I connect only when I need. Like updating (Windows/AV/Firewall/apps etc), surfing the net. Most of the time it's not connected.

(b) How can I make Windows not search for a network so I can go on using the pc right after my AV/firewall is set. The network search always is the last to finish.

Please see attached "tasklist" sample.

Thank you.
