Windows 7: Network printer problem

Network printer problem

I have a a computer P35, running XP Home with an HP LaserJet 1022
USB printer attached. This is on my MSHOME network and is set up for file and printer sharing.

On my home network I also have a computer, P67, running Win7 x64.
I have file sharing working but am having trouble printing from P67.
When adding a network printer to P67 I see four printers, 3 - 6, on P35.
I chose printer 3 on P35 and continued with the set up.
Eventually I get a " No driver found" notice and a paragraph of explanation that starts "Windows can not find a driver for Microsoft Office Document Image Driver on the network" etc.

I tried a repair of MS Office 2003 using the installation disk to no avail.

I have browsed the net looking for answers and have found some old stuff but nothing definitive enough to solve this problem.

Where do I go from here? Help please.

I always find it easier to find a Generic driver installed. For ex. for HP Laserjet printer, the built-in Windows driver shd be HP laserjet, same thing with deskjet, it's HP deskjet. You may install this as secondary Driver for the problematic computer and see if you're able to see and use that printer.

What always works for me is this:

You are trying to add HP LaserJet 1022 attached to P35 to P67

On the P67 computer, open My Computer
Expand Network at the bottom
Click on P35
Double click on the HP LaserJet 1022

Windows 7 will load the necessary drive and you should be all set.

WIN 7 Ultimate x64

No matter what I try on P67 it still says no driver found for HP 1022 printer when I try to set up a network printer.

Connected the printer to P67 and tried to install with HP setup disk.
I follow the instructions and after I power up the printer for discovery
I get a green check-mark for ready to use and a red X for HP laserjet 1022 no driver found.

I have downloaded, from HP support, the latest 32 and 64 bit drivers.

When I try to install the 64 bit version, lj1020_1022-HB-pnp-win64-en.exe I get "-------is not a valid Win32 application".

When I run lj1020-HB-pnp-Win32-en.exe the istallation begins with some files being installed then a message "A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Please close the program".

Was going to start over. Went to Programs and Features to uninstall
laserjet 1020 series. Hp setup wizard reports "Setup encountered an abnormal program execution. Setup will shut down".

How do I uninstall and start over? I would hate to have to do a clean win7 install. I swear I did the original install in 64 bit. Belarc Advisor says I am running Win7 Ultimate (x64) Service Pack 1 (build 7601)

Any suggestions or directions??

Win7 & Win8 64bit

There's no need to uninstall and reinstall anything.

From P35, do an 'Add Printer' and select a generic Lserjet printer driver only for the P67, share it from your network.
Then from P67, click on Start type \\P35\sharedprintername press enter and see if the driver will install.

If it's still an issue, is it possible to share off the printer from P67?

Another option is getting a USB Print Server. Just a thought.

Note: Within XP there's an Additional Driver option from Printer Properties and I there's XP X64, you may put a check mark on the box and see if helps.

If you have the HP LaserJet 1022 installation CD, have you installed it on the Windows 7 Computer?

On P67, have you tried right clicking on lj1020_1022-HB-pnp-win64-en.exe and selecting Run as Administrator?

Tried all your methods and still not able to get P67 on the network printer.

Then I solved the problem the expensive way.

Yesterday while shuttling the LaserJet 1022 around to different computers I managed to drop it on my granite floor. Pieces flew in several directions. I put it back together again and it appeared to work. Printed several test pages.
But this morning it was no go. Can not print from any computer but can print a test page by pressing a button on the printer. Not good quality though. Too light.

Enough of this. I went to my local PCXpress supply store and bought an HP LaserJet P1102 for a bit over $100 bucks.

It works. After some diddling around I now have the printer installed on P35. P67, the Win7 computer, and another XP (Eee) computer can both print over the LAN.

If I get the 1022 repaired, and still have network problems, I might be back to you guys for more advice. I hate to give up on issues.

In the meantime I have a good setup. Thanks for your help.

See you on the next glitch.

Thanks for the update jokdom.

Another optional and maybe a cheaper solution which I have mentioned from Post#5 is a Print Server.

Windows 7 64
Network printer problem

I hope this solution will work with your situation:
* Plug the printer into the Windows 7 x64 machine (P67).
* An automatic installation will popup. Install the printer as any other local printer.
* Unplug your printer and re-plug to Windows XP machine (P35) as before.
* In Windows 7, go to Printers --> Add Printer --> Network Printers --> Choose the shared printer --> Install it. It should be OK since the driver is already in P67 machine.
