windows 7, new laptop, wireless connection problem??

hey

i bought myself a new laptop and it arrived about 5 days agoe, was well happy
then i tried connecting to my wireless network and for some reason it just keeps messing up. it says theres always 5 bars of strong signal, but in the icon on the bottom right it comes up with that orange signal, then i run the "troubleshooting problem" and it keeps telling me "default gateway is not available" but says it fixes it, this goes on and on and on... lol ive tried updating all my drivers from the toshiba web site, with no joy. any help would be most appreciated but please bear in mind im a bit of a novice to computers lol

thanks

Welcome to SF,

Have you tried manually adding your SSID (wireless network)?
How to Connect to Hidden Wireless Networks | Windows 7 Tutorials

By any chance are using any 3rd party utility manager to wireless connect, disable the Wireless Zero Configuration (WZC) for XP and WLAN Auto Config for Vista/Windows 7 from Control Panel's Services. Click on Start and type services.msc press enter, locate WLAN Auto Config and Disable. Otherwise, the WLAN Auto Config needs to be Started if you're using Windows WZC.

If above suggestion didn't help at all please provide an ipconfig /all for review.
Click on Start => in run or search box type cmd press enter (run as Admin). From the black screen, type the word ipconfig /all and press enter. Right click on the black screen or Command prompt then choose Select All and Paste the results here.

Thanks for the ipconfg /all. I don't see any answer regarding this:

If above suggestion is not an option for you, to uninstall your Wi-Fi Adapter from Device Manager then install the new updated driver that you may download from the Manufacturer's site.

Do you have any Firewall or Security Software installed?

Hi radburn welcome to the forums

Lets eliminate gateway problems first of all,

Do you have another machine which is using the router fine? Is it possible to test this?

If not, then try connecting the laptop via Ethernet cable.

Please post back any/all results

I did have mcafee but deleted it and got avg but have tried disabling both the Internet security and windows firewall with no joy

Can you pls. remove your Network Security from the Router for now and see if you're able to connect? You also try WEP Security.

Also, restart your computer, Tap F8 and select Safe Mode with Networking. In here see if you're able to wireless connect.

===============================
If you can't still connect let's uninstall both your Security Software starting with McAfee, one might be the culprit.
Here's the McAfee removal tool. Test your connection after, leaving AVG installed for now.

If it's still No Go, then uninstall AVG as well by using Revo Uninstaller.

Post your progress please.
