Windows 7: Can't get permissions to copy from PC hard drive to USB pen drive

Hello,
My PC was somehow configured so that I cannot copy files from the internal hard drive to a USB pen drive (e.g., to make a back-up).

When I try to do this, I get the following message:
"Destination Folder Access Denied
You need permission to perform this action."

There is definitely enough room on the USB drive.
The USB drive is configured with a password, which I entered correctly after plugging in the drive. After doing this, I am able to see the files from the drive. The configuration is such that I can copy files from the USB drive to the PC's hard drive, but I can't copy in the other direction, which is what I need to do.

This sounds like a Windows permissions issue to me. I have taken ownership of the file in question, and I have assigned full control to that file. That has not solved the problem.

Any ideas?

That is obviously a problem of the USB Stick.
Are you sure it doesn't have a lille switch that prevents writing to it.
Or ask the person who set it up with password access and all if he also installed some sorts of write protection?

Thanks for the response.
I just went out and purchased a new USB stick, but I get the same error.
So I continue to think that it is a Windows 7 permissions problem?
Can you think of any other tests I can undertake to debug this?

Something else just caught my eye: IMHO, USB sticks aren't reliable enough to qualify as a backup medium...make sure you have another copy of said file elsewhere.
OK back to the problem at hand..let's first see if the new stick accepts any data at all:
Go to "my computer" and double click(open) the new stick which should be empty since it's new
right click into the window and go to NEW/Text Document and see if a file named "New Text Document.txt" is created. Double click it (so it'll open in your editor) write something and click on save.
If that works, right click on the file you want to write to the stick, click on copy then right click into the opened stick in "My Computer" and go to PASTE.
If either (or both) steps above fail, I would format that stick (shouldn't be a problem since it's new/empty)
If even that doesn't help. your USB drivers might be shotty. Did you try that stick on all USB ports or always on the same one? Is it a regular stick or an U3 ?

I have similar problem I can't copy from PC to any USB drive though the reverse is possible. Tried ownership and many other things but did not succeed. USB device is working fine on other PCs. My operating system is Vista Home Basic. Cannot format my USB also. error is you do not have permission, Destination folder access denied. though I am in administrator login. Restoring PC to back date when everything was fine also didn't help. Please Help... Thanks
