IMHO, USB sticks aren't reliable enough to qualify as a backup medium...make sure you have another copy of said file elsewhere.
OK back to the problem at hand..let's first see if the new stick accepts any data at all:
Go to "my computer" and double click(open) the new stick which should be empty since it's new
right click into the window and go to NEW/Text Document and see if a file named "New Text Document.txt" is created. Double click it (so it'll open in your editor) write something and click on save.
If that works, right click on the file you want to write to the stick, click on copy then right click into the opened stick in "My Computer" and go to PASTE.
If either (or both) steps above fail, I would format that stick (shouldn't be a problem since it's new/empty)
If even that doesn't help. your USB drivers might be shotty. Did you try that stick on all USB ports or always on the same one? Is it a regular stick or an U3 ?
