Unable to join some wireless networks

    Hi all,

I'm having a problem getting my laptop connected to some wireless networks. I can connect to the wireless connections at work and home without issues, but I'm currently house sitting for my parents and unable to connect to theirs. Apparently I have 'Limited Connectivity' on an 'Unidentifed Network.

DHCP works and is issuing an IP address (plus gateway and dns), but when I try to ping anything on the network I get 'destination host unreachable'. I've tried using a valid static IP and it's no different. I've tried using the Win7 troubleshooting tool and it's complaining that it can't connect to the gateway. I've reset and reconfigured the wireless router but that hasn't helped either. I can connect to this network fine with my phone and an old vista laptop.

Below is the output of ifconfig /all (using DHCP)Windows IP Configuration

I'm running 64bit Win7 Ultimate and the wireless device is an Engenius Senao LR Multi-Client Bridge. I have already reloaded my laptop - there is now no software installed other than Photoshop, Office and Inkscape. I have no software firewall and no anti-virus. I've tried changing the wireless mode to 802.11g, but that didn't work. Bonjour doesn't seem to be installed. I have disabled security on the network, but that didn't help either.

    Any suggestions? Thanks in advance!

    Welcome to SF,

Remove all existing wireless profiles then connect to the desired SSID (wireless network). Make sure that you type in the correct security key.

    Hi thanks for the replies.

I've disabled all security and deleted all existing wireless profiles, but still no luck! I've attached a screenshot of the settings.

if there is another computer that connects wireless to the network then look to match the settings between the 2 pc's. The network manager may not allow new computers to join without the mac adress

The wireless settings on this laptop and an old vista laptop are the same - both are given an IP address via DHCP (a different address for each) and the wireless router shows both MAC addresses as being active.

I'm really confused at this problem! The laptop connects to various other wireless networks without any issues and I have several other devices that all show they can connect to the wireless network I'm having issues with.

    Please try these recommendations:

Type cmd to go to the command prompt screen and type ipconfig /release press enter, then ipconfig /renew press enter. Test your connection after.

If it still a No-Go, pls check the router's MAC filtering and disable it for now.

Verify if the router has enough DHCP reserved, mine has 50 of them.

    Please let us know.

Hi, I've tried a release/renew and that didn't work. DHCP is working fine - the laptop is being issued with an IP/gateway/dns etc.

I'll try booting from a live CD and see if I can get a connection once Win7 is taken out of the equation.

'I have no software firewall and no anti-virus.'
It's not safe trying to browser not running any Security or Anti-Virus software. Did you one installed, perhaps uninstall it as part of troubleshooting? I would recommend MSE for protection and install it right away.

If you have not done the above yet please try the following:

Restart your computer, tap F8 and select Safe Mode with Networking. In here, see if you can connect.

You may scan your computer for any Malware/Spyware using Malwarebytes, it won't hurt to scan, there's no need to post the results.

    Please let us know.

Hi, it's a fresh install of Windows and I'm behind a hardware firewall. I will install some AV software once I've got the laptop onto the network.

Thanks for the idea of trying in safe mode, I'll give that a go tonight.
