    I can't change sharing after a restore

    Hello Folks,

Newbie here, and as usual with these things, I have a problem and I hope someone here can help me.

I had a problem with my pc so I did a system restore. Since then my folders of pics etc are all light grey and are now ''share with nobody''.
I have admin rights and I have changed the ''swn'' to ''share with specific people'' and named myself and admin but the padlock is still there. It always defaults back to ''swn''.

I am logged in as admin, I have taken ownership, I have used a tweak to give me extended admin rights, but still it defaults back to the padlocked icon and no sharing.

    Anyone got any ideas?

    TIA

    Billy.

Have you scanned with an Anti-virus and Anti-Malware program?

    Anyone?

I'm still stuck here. It seems to be a permissions thing but I am reading a lot about a padlock bug in win7

Are you running as Administrator? You will have to right click the folder or file with the padlock and choose to run as Administrator.

Hi, yes I'm running as admin, and I have also extended the admin privileges. If I do as you say the padlock still stays on the folder.
When I go into ''share with'' all the files say ''share with nobody'' I change it to homegroup or me as an individual, but as soon as I do it defaults back to padlocked, it means I can't post a pic or change a thing in these folders.

    If I try to change any security settings I get the error message;

“an error occurred while applying security information to: C:\ Access is denied.”

This is even tho' I have supposedly got a full control admin account.

Really struggling to get to the bottom of this thing, any help is really appreciated.

Hi, and thanks for the reply.

I've tried that tonight, and still no joy. I'm logged in as trustedinstaller and when I tried to change any security value I get a warning box saying ''an error occured while applying security information to C:\$recycle.bin Access is denied.''

I think it must be related, any ideas?

Have you tried booting into Safe Mode then change your permissions from there?

I tried to change permissions in safe made late last night but with no success.

I also downloaded TFC and Dr Web anti virus and ran both. TFC ran ok and deleted all the unnecessary temp files and then I ran Dr Web in safe mode with the latest definitions and found nothing.

Really getting frustrated now, anybody got any other ideas please?
