Windows 7: cant ping, browse or open

Failure to ping is more a Firewall issue...and Firewall is off, no Security software?

What's the Node Type on the other computer? If it's Peer to Peer, that's an issue.

Make sure that you have an Identical UserName and Password on both computer.

You may also try enabling the Guest Account for now and see if it helps.

Also, can the Windows 7 laptop ping the XP computer? If so, you can then copy files from the XP box to the laptop using the Laptop...instead of the other way around.
