    Remote Logoff Users?

    Hello everyone, first post here.

So here's the pickle: I work in a hospital with a pretty big network. Till now our help desk computers were all Win XP and were recently upgraded to Win 7.

Now in Win XP if the help desk person wanted to remote logoff a user (which happens a lot as computers are sometimes locked by a certain user but must be released) they simply remote managed that computer and clicked properties -> shutdown -> logoff and that would do the trick. In Win 7 however there is no Shutdown in Remote Manage and it's no longer possible to do this.

I was going to create a batch file using shutdown.exe but it turns out the -l trigger of that command is limited and won't allow the usage of -m in the same command.

    Any other ideas?

You should be able to shut it down like that:

    1. Click Start, click All Programs, click Accessories, and click Command Prompt.
    2. Type shutdown /i to display the Remote Shutdown dialog box (Shutdown.exe).
    3. Under Computers, click Add to enter computer names, or click Browse to open the Find Computers dialog box.
    4. Under What do you want these computers to do, click Restart or Shut down.
    5. Select the appropriate reason for the restart or shutdown from the list.

psshutdown from SysInternals (www.sysinternals.com) has an option to logoff the console user of a remote user.

That would restart the computer, I just want to log off the user from the remote computer. (BTW I shoulda mentioned the workstations are all Win XP).

Thanks, I'll check it out. I was kinda hoping there was a built in option to do this though.

Sysinternals is almost built-in - Microsoft bought'em up a little while ago and hired the guys that developed the tools.

You might be able to accomplish the same thing using at or schtasks and the builtin shutdown, but it'd just be much easier to use psshutdown.

I have a VBScript that does this.

    remote logoff.vbs

Run It >> Enter I.P Address or Computer Name >> Click OK

    Hope this helps.

Besides entering the IP address of the computer you are trying to log off, are there any changes you need to make to the script for it to work?

Also, does it work on separate vlans?
