keep local user settings when moving user to a domain

I searched to see if this had already been asked but i didn't see anything.
I'm looking to either:
  1. transfer user files and settings over to the domain profile after joining a pc to a domain.
or
2. setup a roaming profile.

Surprisingly enough I have the Microsoft Press self study guide for the MCTS admin directory and the MCITP for server 2008 administration and the mcts for win 7 configuration and I can't find that info in any of these books, which you would think it would be in one of those three.

Can anyone help point me in the right direction please?
