    Printer Share

    Hi

I have an AIO printer attached and shared on a Win XP Pro machine. The printer is then accessed by 5 Win 7 machines.

On the Win XP pc, I have created accounts that match the users/accounts of the Win 7 pc's. The passwords also match between 7 & XP.

The problem is every time a user changes their password on their Win 7 machine, they lose connectivity to the printer, and can no longer print, until the account is modified to match the Win 7 pc.

I would like to get rid of this issue.

Is there a way to connect to the shared printer on the XP machine without worrying about users/accts.

I also don't want to create a general user account on the XP pc, and then create the same acct on the Win7 pc, so they can print.

3 of the machines are being operated by kids, they keep changing their passwords, also trying to connect to each others machines, basically playing around.

I just want them to connect to the printer and print, not have to worry about passwords or etc...

    Any recommendations?

    Thx!

I would suggest adding a cheap print server and connecting the printer to it. The any computer on the same network can print to it. No userid/password problems and no specific machine has to be running.

Many/most new printers are Wireless capable so this is built in.

yep, that is the plan as soon as this one dies. Network printers are the way to go.

I had to create a user acct just for printing, it works.

I don't use simple file sharing or use guests accts.

Add the "Everyone" group to the printer access list. Give the "Everyone" group print access and they shouldn't be prompted to login at all.

tried that, didn't work for all the pc's, didn't have time to troubleshoot permissions, as i had to remove viruses.

the pc's are going to be upgraded to win7, so for now their good :)

    thx
