    how to setup homegroup


    hi! i have a problem here.. i would like to share printers and files using windows 7 homegroup function. i just bought a wireless router..but when i checked the network and sharing center i noticed that my computer is connected to network 5 and my laptop is connected to cw-8196..how could i fix this?? i cannot use homegroup because my computers are not connected to the same network..

    have you enabled VPN on the router (name varies by brand and firmware)
    also have you tried pinging one machine from the other.
    Do you have any 3rd party firewalls running?

    i already disabled my antivirus firewall..no i didn't try pinging..what could be the problem??

    The router will need to have VPN enabled (may be called private network or virtual network).

    Are they both connected wirelessly? or is one wireless and one cabled. The cabled network will not use the wireless network name.

    To check the communication lines check the IP of Machine 2 (Network sharing center > Network >details)

    then on machine 1 type in the run box on the start menu;

    ping xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx obviously replacing the x's with the IP of machine 2.

    Does it time out?
