W7 + Old Laptop + Wireless G = Connectivity Issues

I hope this is in the right place.

Preface: I'm not a really tech savvy person to begin with but I can get by with good instruction. Onto my problem...

I have a HP laptop that is actually a really solid, fast laptop but it is a few years old. It's an HP Pavilion dv7 1135nr and I was working on sprucing up a bit as it's in great working shape so I got a new hard drive (WB Caviar Black) and updated it to Windows 7 64-bit Home Premium.

At the same time I tweaked my wireless router/modem settings (a Motorola SBG900 Surfboard). I went from wireless b/g to wireless g enhanced.

My phone, my wife's laptop, and my desktop all connect just fine and fly on wireless g. Now that my HP laptop is up and running it won't connect at all though.

I'm wondering if this is a driver issue, a network issue, or if there is a possibility that the wireless card in my laptop just isn't capable of accepting a "wireless g enhanced" wireless connection.

In my device manager the network adapters are listed as Atheros AR5007 802.11b/g WiFi Adapter and Realtek RTL8102E/RTL8103E Family PCI-E Fast Ethernet NIC (NDIS 6.20). I've tried via Device Manager to update the drivers for each but it says they're both already up to date. Should I attempt to find the specific drivers online and update manually, or am I just plain equipment limited and stuck on staying on wireless b/g (my phone is horribly slow on wireless b/g)?

Thanks a ton for any help.

After 4 hours of searching and trying different fixes and drivers, I finally found one that worked. I'm wireless now. Disregard original post please.

To be honest I was so sick of looking at all of it that once it was fixed I closed out the windows and walked away from the computer for a while. I'll see if I can dig up the site where I found the drivers and post a link...
