Connecting Vista to Windows 7 for Internet

Hi, I have a laptop with Windows 7 installed on it. I have a solid internet connection with it atm, and I want to connect my laptop to my buddies computer with Windows Vista, so he can use the internet aswell. We've tried changing firewall settings but nothing seems to be working. He and I can see each other in the Network Folder, and can access them too, but still no luck. Any help would be much appreciated.
