Strange PC behavior with network adapter

    Hi all,

I've had windows 7 for about a year now on my PC and it has been running reasonably smooth. For the first time a few days ago, I connected to a LAN with someone running win xp which worked wonderfully.

I disabled my network adapter in Network and sharing center, and since then I cannot reconnect to the LAN. I have tried everything from connecting to remote desktop options, changing IP addresses etc etc. I have also done IP config which isn't much help since it doesn't give me a log to post.

I also cannot create a new LAN unless I connect to the internet in oder to use the LAN, which still doesn't work as it gives me error messages. An even stranger thing is that I do not see my network adapter in device manager. There is no such thing. And ontop of that, there is no "manage connections" option in my " Network and Sharing center ".

How do i fix this problem? I know i never uninstalled the network adapter drivers, yet diagnostics tests give me an error message which says that windows has not detected a properly installed network adapter driver. It makes sense since i did not see it in device manager.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks in advance

Have you tried a system restore? Also, make sure 'proxy server' isn't ticked.

    1) Under “Tools” in the browser tool bar select “Internet Options”.
    2) In the “Internet Options” window that pops up, click the “Connections” tab at the top.
    3) Click “LAN Settings” near the bottom of the “Connections” section.
    4) If the “Proxy server” checkbox is marked with a check, click it to deselect/uncheck it.
    5) Click “Ok” to close the “Local Area Network (LAN) Settings” window.
    6) Click “Ok” to close the “Internet Options” window.
    Reboot
Make sure "Proxy server" is still disabled under your LAN Settings.
Test whether internet connectivity is restored.

    Hi,

Thanks for the reply but connecting to the internet is not the issue. I am connected to the internet as we speak on my pc (the pc that I am discussing). My problem is that I cannot create a LAN (Local area network connection from one pc to another pc via a LAN cable connected to both PC's, to share files and folders).

That is what I am trying to figure out.
