    file share windows seven and windows xp


    i cant seem to get two networked windows xp machines to file share with a windows 7 machine. and by share i mean i cant get them to change or move files on the win 7 pc . i set up the network, shared the folder with every one , turned off password protection shareing, the pcs can share printers but they just cant get into a folder. wich they need to access for running client software. there all on the same (WORKGROUP). anyone able to help me on this?

    How are you trying to access the shares? Can you see the shares by going to Start > Run and typing \\192.168.1.* (whatever the IP address is of the machine with the shared folders)?

    thats just it i can see them and grab files from them i just dont have access to change them on the host computer, ive tried all i know of to get access to them i just cant figure out what more i can do . ive shared them , ive granted access to all users and yet i still cant change them. wich i need to do to have a program work together on the network.

    and just to add wierd windows happenings . if i go into the folders through my network places i can edit the files

    Hmm.. Maybe try to map a network drive using different credentials and make it so that it uses the user of the target machine (ex. targetmachinename\username). Also, if you don't have a password on the target machine, try to create a user with a password and allow it to have access to the shared folder. Then use the user with a password to connect to the share.
