Can not connect to wireless network

I recently inherited a pc from my mother in Arizona, she used AOL with a linksy wireless router and it has an xp os. Problem is I can't seem to get it connected to my wireless home network to work on my new pc (with os win 7 home premium), hp all in one printer or netgear WGR614v9 wireless router.
Any suggestions would be deeply appreciated.

    Thanks Tina

If the XP computer has a non-Netgear wireless network card, then this procedure may help:
Configuring your wireless connection using Windows XP Wireless Zero Configuration utility

Skulblaka: No error messages. Tried to download netgear driver via thumb drive but not luck, can not connect it to the internet without the wireless. If the wireless device came with a cd I can't find it. Not sure of the question about the how connected to network. But my new pc with win 7 has everything plugged into it and I have a laptop connected via wireless home network which also accesses the printer wireless.

Ski: Do I need to be connected to the internet to configure the connection? Which the xp system is not.

Thanks for your help and keep helping please

The XP computer does not have to be connected to the Internet.

Follow the instructions approx. halfway down the page that start with "The steps explained below use the Windows XP wireless client."

There are no wireless connections available, there's a modem dial-up connection and a local area connection that states Network cable unplugged, firewalled Intel PRO/100 VE Network Conn....?

Make sure the modem and the wireless router are turned on.

If they're both turned on and your laptop detects the wireless router, then on the XP computer open Control Panel/Device Manager, double click on Network Adapters, and make sure there's an adapter name that has "Wi-Fi" in it.
If that's ok, then double click on the adapter name, click on the General tab, and make sure it says "This Device Is Working Properly".

No WI-Fi adapter, the only one listed is the Intel PRO/100 VE Network Connection?

That network adapter is designed for a cable connection to the router.
If your router has 2 LAN ports, then connect the XP computer to the 2nd one(your Win 7 computer is connected to the other LAN port).
If the router has only 1 LAN port, and you want the XP computer to have wireless access to the Internet, then you'll have to replace the Intel network card with a wireless card.

I can't believe it was that easy, all I did was plug in another wire to the router and to the pc and bingo we have internet. Thank you very much.
