Windows 7 Won't Recognize wireless networks

Hey guys, brand new HP Desktop with windows 7..... I have put in an Asus wireless PCI card and Asus says Windows 7 will recognize it. WRONG!
So I took it out and put in a Belkin USB Wireless connector with the same results. When it starts up it tells me there are no wirelss networks available.
I have three lap tops on the wireless system and wondered if maybe I was overtaxing the router so I shut them off. No change.
I have done all the ordinary stuff but I must be missing something..... any help out there?

Ok your pc is indeed getting an ip from the router, so what exactly is happing? If you are using encryption try disabling it to test.

Nothing fancy.... connecting through a D-Link wireless router, a DSL modem to the computer. I was setting up three new computers, exactly the same and this one will not see the wireless networks available. I tried with a Belkin USB wireless conection... nothing. Hard Wired through the same routher, no problem.... 100 Mbps.
I have tried disabling the antivirus. No change. I will try to manually add the SSID but can't help but wonder why the other two connected without problem.... this one is not only a problem but does not see ANY wireless networks.
Thanks for your help, in the morning, I will try resetting everything, reformat the router and then manually set up the SSID. I will get back to you.

Network security was set to WEP... I reset to WPA and then back to WEP. Physically removed the adapter then Did the install Wi-Fi adapter (again) and removed it from Device Manager. On reboot it found it and it once again showed up in Device manager. Checked Asus web site and they say Windows 7 contains the appropriate drivers. There are none to find on the Web.
Don't know how to apply the WEP setting to my computer.... is that the critical missing piece?

Just to be sure we are on the same page, the computer is not networked to any other computer. I understand we are trying to connect to the wireless router and I am guessing that is the "network" you are referring to.

I will try the things you are suggesting and get back. Thanks again for all your help.
