I have an old laptop running windows XP on it attached to my router via Ethernet. Is there a way I could back information from my Laptop (Wireless) and Desktop (Ethernet) to the old laptop via RDP? I played with Apache server and that did me no good. Just wanted to get some use out of this old laptop with XP on it.

Sure there is a way, but I'm not sure that using RDP (Remote Desktop Protocol) and the clipboard is the optimal way of doing so.
Have you considered, depending on the amount of room remaing on the old laptop (available hard drive space) creating a shared folder that would be accessible by you from both the other computer and simply mapping a network drive and using drag and drop to perform this. Or depending on how robust you wanted this backup process to be, many backup software products will support backing up to network locations or perhaps using a product like SyncToy might even be a possible consideration

I agree with patwhatsthat in that a shared folder would be the best solution. I think that the easiest way to do this might be to install Ubuntu instead of Windows XP and then set up a Samba server to access from Windows 7.

Can I have it backed up? on the server? Similar to an external drive?

I am quite sure that you could write a batch script that will back up your files when you click on it. As for an automated backup, however, I will have to look into that.
