Documents and Desktp Shortcuts have a transparent appearance

    System Spec:

Windows 7 Professional edition 64 bit

In my office, some of our users are having a very strange problem. Every now and again, a users documents and desktop shortcuts go transparent and have a little cross on them and cannot be opened. The only fix we have at present is to restart the PC.

The documents and shorcuts point to items that are on a mapped network drives. Not all of the documents go like this, only certain ones.

There are no certain users or documents that this happens too, its completely random.

Does anyone know what might be causign this or where to look first for a solution?

    Thanks in advance

    Hi! Richard1982, welcome to 7F :)

It sounds like something is running a maintenance schedule similar to this:
Windows 7 has a built in task schedule to clean up broken and unused links.
    Source in Dank60's reply here

And the only way to fix them is to as you have found, is to break the cycle and re-start your machines.

You could try Dank60's possible fix by going into Task Scheduler, and finding:
    Task Scheduler Library-Microsoft-Windows-Diagnosis.
In the right hand pane, right click the task named Scheduled and click Disable.
