How do you reset a network TYPE?

I have an Ethernet cable that I plugged into my laptop, a dialogue box came up asking "what is your network type?" having never seen this in XP, I had no clue what this was and clicked public. 7 now doesn't want to connect to the internet over the network.

bottom line: how do I change a public network from public to work?
