Can only connect to google & a very few other sites

Similar to this problem:
Connected to network, only google website works

New build. Core i5-2500K, Asus P8P67 LE mobo, 2x4GB G.Skill DDR3 PC 1333 ram. Win.7.Pro.x64.sp1 w/ IE9, al updates. Firefox 3.6, 4, 5, Chrome ... several versions.

Machine works flawlessly connected to CenturyLink 3Mbit DSL using D-Link DGL4300 router, WIRED (not wireless)

Move computer to friend's house. Verizon 1.5Mbit DSL, D-Link DGL4100 router, and internet connection is stuck on google. Can search for anything, e.g., wikipedia.com, and the search shows up just fine; however, the links just time out. Cannot type in the url for wikipedia, either -- just times out. Tried IE8, IE9, 3 versionf each of Firefox & Chrome to no effect.

Two other computers, both notebooks, work perfectly both places (HP Pavilion & Lenovo W510, both with Win.7.Pro.x64.sp1) wired to same DGL4100.

I'm at wit's end. Verizon says (and probably correctly) nothing is wrong with their internet service because it tests properly and works with 2 of the 3 computers.

I've uninstalled, reinstalled and reset browsers to their default settings, enabled and disabled av software, firewalls & utilities, set & unset DNS to various publicly supported DNS IP addresses, flushed DNS cache, disabled and re-enabled the network adapter, tried 4 versions of the LAN adapter drivers.

I can ping google.com and yahoo.com; but I cannot ping apple.com, msn.com, microsoft.com or wikipedia.org. Doesn't matter if I use their named addresses or their IP addresses -- same result.

Verizon says its the fault of Asus or DLink. Asus blames Verizon, DLink won't lay blame but says it isn't them because two computers work on both routers. Unfortunately, the DGL4300 is 280 miles separated from the DGL4100 or I'd try switching between the two (both have the most recent firmware).

I'm praying for suggestions -- grasping as straws. Anything, please! (& thank you very much!!!)

Addendum: All connections with Verizon are hard-wired, not wireless. Same with CenturyLink, except the two notebooks worked both hard-wired and wireless with the DGL-4300.

Almost sounds like google redirect virus. I would download malwarebytes and run it.

Been there; done that: New build, new install, tried several different AV packages to no avail, including Malwarebytes. I won't say it cannot be a virus; but it's unlikely. Besides, When I moved the computer back to NC after the problem first manifested, the problem disappeared. Returned to NoVa and it's back again. The ONLY differences are the 2 ISPs, the 2 Westell DSL modems and the 2 similar DLink routers.

I'm headed to MicroCenter now to purchase a new router to see if that's the problem. (I can't imagine that it is, but I'm desperate.)

Okay, that was a waste of money (although I can use it elsewhere - I didn't need it now). Not the router.

It was also suggest that there could be winsock problems. I've tried two different "fixes" -- neither of which accomplished anything. One was a batch file that used ipconfig to release and renew the local machine's IP connection and then issued "netsh winsock reset catalog" and "netsh int ip reset reset.log" commands. Didn't work. The other was Microsoft's Winsock repair tool -- that didn't work either.

Any additional thoughts out there? I'm drowning here.

I'm sorry, but this isn't a help post. I've got the exact same problem with my Dad's computer. I just installed Windows 7, SP1; I.E. 9, a couple of security updates and Office 2010, SP1.

He is using a Netgear WPS router and a Model 2200 Westell DSL Modem. The Windows 7 machine is the only one that is having problems. I've been able to ping Google and Yahoo, but nothing else works. I have enabled and disabled firewalls and antivirus (Dad uses Norton products). The DSL company is Frontier.

Thanks for any help!

A very nice tech-geek at MicroCenter in NoVA found the problem. It's the Westell DSL modem. I replaced the Westell with a more recently manufactured one from Actiontec and the problem disappeared.

Verizon had "tested" the Westell remotely and insisted that it was okay. After I called Verizon's tech support back and told them what I'd discovered, they admitted that "some few" older Westell DSL modems have minor problems with some of the newest systems. Really nice of them to tell me after I spend nearly 3 weeks trying to find a solution, including completely -- and totally unnecessarily -- reloading everything on the machine.

I still don't know exactly what the problem was; however, as it's now gone, I don't really care. And, Verizon is correct: the affected Westell DSL modem has been in service at my friend's home in NoVA for about 5~6 years. The one in NC was put in service about 2 years ago.

Hope this resolves your problem also, srbrowning. Please, let us know.

Thanks a lot. I'll pass the message along to my father who is the owner of the computer with the problem.

What an annoying problem!

Hello, I am having the exact same problem with my new computer which also happens to be an 2nd Generation Intel build (LGA1155), except I use the i7 2600k. I could only go on google, msn, yahoo, youtube, gamefaqs, but wouldn't go on newegg, wikipedia, and pretty much every other site in the world i guess... i mean i saw at the top of the browser that it was semi-connected to the page, but the page itself did not load, just remained blank/white.

I also use a Westell DSL modem box from Verizon. Would your model number happen to be: 327W as well?

This problem has been driving me crazy for days...

Thanks in advanced.
