How do i change my ip address?

I really want to change my ip address. Not the ipv4 one, but the actual one
e.g. the one when i go to whatsmyip.org.

I am Running Virgin Media Broadband, and recently got a brand new Hub ( http://shop.virginmedia.com/content/...tions/original ) along with a new ip and i was told that it is "dynamic". But if i reboot it etc it still stays the same? what can i do to change it? im on Windows 7... and im on a laptop with wireless. i'd love any help. thankyou

power down for a few hours then power up, it doesn't always work though.

why do you want to change your IP? if your getting attacked or something along the lines get onto Virgin Medias official forum and post up a thread. Please note the staff on there are busy at the minute so you may not get a response straight away.

You could call 150/151 from your VM home phone and tell them about it, they might change your IP but it all depends why you want it changed? Whats going on?

As fa as I know, even "Dynamic" IP address are assigned to a line for a short period of time. Otherwise they would be being reassigned frequently.

Here (I'm not on Virgin Media), the "Client Lease Time" in my Router config is 48 hours. So, I think that if I am disconnected from the network (not just a PC reboot) for that period, then my IP address would change.

You might try turning your Router off for a while (but the broadband retraining period may restart) or you might be able to change the period in your Router configuration settings. Otherwise contact Virgin

The public ip address is assigned by the ISP and ISP policy dictates how you can change this. You can use the ipconfig command to try renew your ip (in cmd window, type ipconfig /renew, hit Enter). Often, you will need to disconnect your modem from the internet for a long period of time (many hours or a few days) before the ISP will assign a different dynamic IP address.

What are you trying to do, bypass a ban?
