Win7 64 Home DNS failure
I'm not sure if this is the cause, or if it is a coincidence, but ever since I instaled internet explorer 9, I've been getting random DNS issues to where I can't surf the internet but I can still ping ip addresses, and anything I am currently connected to [yahoo messenger, AIM, steam, etc] is still connected but if I try to disconnect and reconnect, the connection fails.
Also, for a short period of time, a couple of days, I was able to get the DNS to work by manualy changing the DNS instead of letting the system do the lookup for itself.
So far, here is everything I've tried:
Uninstalled IE9, didn't help.
Changed the DNS lookup to google's DNS, worked occasionally but not anymore.
Changed the DNS lookup to OpenDNS's DNS, worked occasionally but not anymore.
Restarted router, worked some of the time.
Ran malware bites, spybot search and destroy, and norton antivirus [not at the same time] and found nothing.
I'm running out of ideas and could realy use some help on this problem.
One other thing that is very weird, I've tested my computer on a different, slower internet connection [house has a DSL and cable line, the cable is the one with the DNS issue aparently.] and it works on the DSL. BUT I'm on a borrowed laptop using my cable connection and it's working just fine.
I have Comcast Cable internet and I'm using a motorola surfboard extreme wireless cable modem gateway.
Edit:I forgot to mention, on both tests and with the laptop that isn't having issues, I'm using a wired connection.
Thanks.
