    Weird homegroup file sharing problem

    Hello all,

I have this problem that is driving me insane and I hope someone here can help me out. Here is the situation. I have a Win 7 Pro 64 bit PC and a Win 7 Home Premium 64 laptop. I have both at home and connected to a Homegroup. The problem is the file sharing.

On my PC I have Open Office documents that I want to edit on my laptop. Both computers finds the homegroup and connect to it without a problem. I can see each others files without a problem. With my PC I can read/write any file on my laptop without a problem, however, on my laptop I can read/write any file without a problem with the exception of Open Office documents. The laptop finds the documents, but is unable to open them with Open Office. My PC finds Open Office documents on my laptop and can edit them without a problem.

I have no issues whatsoever with other files which makes this very frustrating (at least to my knowledge). What makes it even more annoying is that my laptop has Microsoft Office Starter Edition 2010 installed, and to my big surprise, MS Office is able to open and edit documents without a problem while Open Office can't...

Some more background - I have Eset Smart Security on my PC but not on my laptop. I have tried disabling the firewall in Eset but this has not improved anything. I have the same version of Open Office on both computers so I have ruled that out. I also have a router but everything seems to be in order there. Does any have a clue what is going on? I am desperate for some advice / help since this is driving me insane.

    Kind regards,

Hi RenderMonkey, welcome to sevenforums. Can you confirm that you have the same login details on both computers and the file permissions on the OpenOffice directories and files on the PC are set to allow you to share them?

What do you mean with same login details on both computers? Like I wrote, the folders are set to read/write for homegroup on both PCs.

    Kind regards,
