Poor Attempt at Fixing Window 7's Notorious Gaming Lag-Spike

    Hey guys,

    Here's my system information:

    Manufacturer: eMachines
    Model: ET1331
    Processor: AMD Athlon(tm) II X2 215 Processor 2.70 GHz
Installed memory (RAM): 4.00 GB (3.75 GB usable)
    System type: 64-bit Operating System

I had recently viewed a Youtube video that suggested manually updating Windows 7's Wireless LAN Driver with Windows XP's can fix lag-spikes.

Here's the video: ‪Windows 7 - Fixing Wireless Gaming Issues and Updating Device Drivers‬‏ - YouTube

Many viewers have retorted that the method actually works. So, I decided to give it a shot. Long story short, I'm able to download Windows XP 64-bit's RTL8187B Wireless LAN Driver, and manually update it on my PC successfully. However, immediately after the update is completed, I lose internet access; the router still performs exceptionally well, and I can view and even attempt to connect to my network, but to no avail. Can someone tell me why am I unable to connect to the internet after updating my network adapter and how to fix it?

    Thanks!

EDIT: I encounter lag-spikes only when gaming.
