File Sharing Btwn Win 7 and Vista

So I have a PC with Vista and another with Win 7. I set up file sharing in networks and sharing(Discover mode, file and print share...etc). Both the PC's can see the other, and my Vista can log into my Win 7, but my Win 7 can't get into my Vista. It asks for a username and password, but says it is wrong when I am positive it is right. I am the admin on both computers. I tried to log in with multiple usernames it may have been, but no luck.

Just wondering if this is a known problem and if there is a fix to it. Cause I read on some other forum that a few people were having the same problem.

On a side note...I also have another PC with Win 7 and tried to set up homegroup. I wanted to start over so I tried to leave the homegroup. And on one of the PC's it said that I could not leave the group. Anyone ever heard of this?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks

Brink has produced this tut for file sharing between XP and 7, but I imagine the principles would be the same for Vista.

File Sharing - Between XP and W7 (and vice versa)

    Another guide here:

    Leaving a Homegroup:

However, as you are using Windows Vista and Windows 7, I think you should be using a Workgroup instead of a Homegroup. Use Homegroup if all the computers on the network are using Windows 7.

    Hi, thanks for the help,

I got the two Win7 PC's connected to a homegroup and the other Win 7 can login and access my files, but when I try to login, it gives me an invalid username and password. It's the same exact problem I have with the Vista PC. I am having an issue with my username/password apparently cause it's the same issue with both machines. I've been logging on to my PC with the same username/password for a while now, so I know that is not the issue. I did change my computer name and username a little while back, could that be a problem? I did try my old username, but that didn't work either.

    Anyone have any suggestions?

    Thanks

So after playing around with the settings on all computers for a bit, I managed to get all 3 PC's shown in all 3 network folders. Now the only problem is that when I try to access them it says access denied, contact network administrator. I don't have a network administrator. At least I don't think.

What now? Do I have to create an admin?

    Thanks

to access the vista machine folder or harddrive you want to share.
On the vista machine...computer management/shared folders/shares.. right click on the folder or drive letter you want to share. click on shared permissions set as you require. clisk security click edit click add make sure"everyone" is showing in the groups list if not type everyone click ok then you should be able to connect from other pc's to vista shared drive or folder.
all machines must be on the same workgroup(a name you supply) all pc's have a name of their own. make sure file and print sharing is allowed through the firewall, don't bother with usernames and passwords unless its really necessary to prevent others from access to your setup

I finally got it. The problem was, although I enabled sharing with full control permissions to "everyone", The "everyone" group was not showing under "group and user names" in the security tab. Something so simple that I overlooked for a few days(I am a Windows noob). And although I got to the main folder I shared, it still denies me from certain folders under that main folder even though the permissions are set to full control. But I am so relieved that I got this main issue worked out, and now I can work on these other little issues. And hopefully it won't be as painful.

    Thanks for everyones help.
