Windows 7: WiFi Icon

Did the sfc fix the problem? If not then according the log there was corruption during a windows update. After some research those files that were corrupted during the win update cannot be deleted because they belong to windows update "trusted installer" account". You'd have to take control. My only suggestion then would be try a repair/install with the installation disk. Otherwise this is far as I can help as I'm not familiar enough with correcting corrupted update files.

Do you know what windows updated recently? Because that's what looks like what might be causing all the problems.

@ metalmania31 No it did not fix it, and I have been having this trouble for months now and don't really know if it was an update that changed it.

@ boohbah I tried that, it tells me there is a problem with the adapter or access point and is not fixed.

shame ,i had a thought, in start search ,type device manager, in the list that opens find wireless adapters, expand the tree and right click on the wireless lan card/select enable

failing that
there is a ton of stuff here ,i have to go out so i leave you with the google search results.

good luck

problem with the wireless adapter or access point windows 7 - Google Search
due to your location
if the search page wont load its because it says www.google.co.uk at the start of the url. change it to www.google .com

maybe start with this one

Ok, I have tried everything and have gotten nowhere. I have a feeling that the problem can't really be solved without re-installing. I have decided to leave it at that as it is not high priority. Thanks to all those that tried to help, all is appreciated.

I have exactly the same problem! Disappointing to see a fix wasn't found. Icon suddenly changed in the last couple of days. I hadn't done any Windows updates. I have tried rebooting, resetting icons to default, disabling and re-enabling ethernet adapter, disconnecting and reconnecting wireless.

So anyone out there found a fix for this please?

Ok -the only thing that worked for me was a system restore to 2 weeks earlier. I tried various different fixes -one of which, on the microsoft website, said, go to control panel - type 'adapter' in the search box and click 'view network connections' - I was then supposed to right click on an adapter - but there was nothing there! Blank page - no adapters, no icons, nothing to click on. So - system restore fixed it - as long as you have a recent enough restore point. Seems like the icons had been corrupted - or something gone funny with the network adapters - no idea why - the only thing I have done differently recently was a spate of internet banking -ooer!

Oh no! I spoke too soon. Switched netbook on again just now and the icon has changed to the ethernet one again! So it was right for the space of 5 or 6 hours then next time I switched on it had changed again. Would be very grateful if anyone has a fix. Windows (or something) is clearly changing it.

OK!!!!!! This registry edit just fixed it for me. The article is for Vista and Seven as well apparently. Clean Up Past Notification Icons in Windows Vista

See if it stays right for the next 24 hours - fingers crossed.
