Vpn conflict

I am going away on holiday for 3 weeks and thought a proxy server would be useful so I purchased a vpn server from the company below:

Watch UK TV online abroad - My Expat Network

Everything downloaded fine and seemed to install just fine as well. Click on the products icon and it seems to connect to the internet.
However.....................

It comes up in the network and sharing screen as an unidentified public network with no internet access.

I can't change it to a 'home' network.

The top part of the NSC screen 'View your basic network information and set up connections' section has a large x between a multiple networks icon and the internet globe, which is greyed out.

I have been running it as an administrator as instructed in the instructions, but its still not working. I have emailed the vendors, but time is of thessence hereas I wil be going away shortly.

Any ideas folks?

I am running home premium on my laptop, a compaq presario.
