constantly getting disconnected from internet

I have a laptop w/Windows 7, we also have 2 other laptops using 7 and one using XP. We are constantly getting disconnected from our wireless internet. Sometimes it will show that it's connected but then show "no internet access". We also have a Wii, PS3, 2 iTouches and 2 iPhones. Could we be overloading our wireless router? It probably happens at least 2 times a day. We are always having to unplug router and modem and starting over. I've reset the router several times but still have same issue.

Any help would be appreciated!!

I too would suspect the router itself.


I had a similar issue (only all PCs wired)

Im unsure the best way to test a router TBH, but what I done was bypass the router all together. Running 1 PC directly from the modem and it was stable again.


Replacing the router resolved all issues of connections being dropped.

Hello,

See if updating the router to the latest firmware helps. You may download the firmware from the manufacturer's site.

When you said 'I've reset the router several times but still have same issue.' meaning a hard reset to the factory default setting? If this is the case and the firmware update didn't help at all, you might need to replace your router.

The router is less than 6 month old. It is a medialink router. We had this same issue with our previous router as well. It was a Linksys router. In the past I've called our provider and they've said all was well on their end. Guess I should try calling again just to make sure, plus search for the updated firmware.

I actually had issues with 2, within 6 months of purchase like this.

Both were Linksys routers. Perhaps I just got unlucky?
At any count, its prevented me from buying another from them sadly.


I picked up a D-Link, and its been going strong for almost 2 years now.




Before looking for a new one though, I would certainly try 2xg's suggestion and check for firmware.

There can also be another Router in the area that is close by and Using the same Channel. Try changing the channel and see where it gets you.

Yes, definitely search the new firmware from the manufacturer's site.

If the firmware is up to date, and changing channels doesn't help, I would contact the router mfg and get an RMA, because that leaves a faulty router. Electronics are fickle, they can go bad in 2 weeks, or they can go bad in 10, 15 years. You just never know.
