Constant error: "The DNS server isnít responding" (Win7 Pro 64bit)

Every since I upgraded to Windows 7 Pro 64bit from Windows 7 Pro 32bit I have been getting "The DNS server isnít responding" error randomly and constantly (I attached the most current reports). I got rid of the Windows drivers and went straight to the Intel site for the drivers.....issue remains. Tried a complete power cycle of the router and modem....issue remains (No other computers are having the DNS issues, wired and wireless). I disabled the Bonjour Service (mDNSResponder.exe)......issue remains. The is driving me nuts and I notice that the only way I can force the connection is to disable and enable the NIC. Any help?! Thanks!

Hi charliearthur, flush your dns cache and run namebench - Download to find the best dns service in your area.

Thanks for the reply and info Roderunner. I ran the benchmark and it determined that "Cox US" is the best for me. Cox is my ISP so wouldn't this DNS server already be my default?

It all depends where you got your router, look in its settings.

I totally forgot about manual DNS settings in the router. I set the recommended DNS server. I'll see if the issue returns. Thanks again!

Well it seems like the issue has returned. It's weird since it's only affecting this computer and no others. Any other ideas?

One possible solution is to sign up & use OpenDNS > OpenDNS at Home

Thanks again for the help Roderunner. Just FYI, I am using DD-WRT v24 on my Linksys WRT54GSv2. I didnt't think this really mattered since the issue is only affecting my computer but I should have included this info anyway.

Well I setup the router via Option 2 (OpenDNS - DD-WRT Wiki) and OpenVPN is seeing that I have their addresses in place.

In the meantime, do you think there are any other files that could be running and tampering with my local dns settings? I have ESET Smart Security and it is pretty strict on every file that attempts to access the web and I always deny unknown files.

I'll continue to monitor this issue. Thanks again!
