Anyone else having wireless problems suddenly?

    Hi everyone.
Since yesterday both my home PC and my work laptop (both completely independant of each other in different cities and both running Windows 7) have the same wireless problem: they can't automatically connect to their usual respective routers and when you bring up the wireless networks menu it displays all the available normal networks but freezes for 2 seconds then says "no connections available". I can't click on my network as it is frozen when it brings up the menu. This has suddenly happened to two independant machines on two separate networks on the same day after months of working fine and connecting to the internet automatically from startup. This leads me to believe it is due to a Microsoft automatic update possibly. Does anyone else have this problem all of a sudden?

    Thanks,
    Nick

Have you looked to see what updates were installed?

Just seems to be a couple of Windows Defender definition updates, can't see anything suspect.

Any idea why Windows would display a load of available wireless networks for about 1 second then suddenly say there are no connections available?

Try powering OFF your router, wait 1 minute before re starting.

Thanks for the response, I will try that. I think it won't help as there are at least 6 other wireless networks around my house that I can see in the 1 second before it freezes, then it just says there is nothing available. Can't be a problem with everybodies router!

What happens if you boot to Safe Mode With Networking?

Will try that and let you know. As an update, my work PC is fine now it seems, just my home PC that continues to have the problem. Might well e a specific problem in that case and not a windows update...

Windows Safe mode with Networking still has the same problem. In the end I installed the wireless drivers from the wireless adapter over the windows drivers and it seems to work. Not sure why the Windows drivers worked fine for months then suddenly stopped.

My guess is a Windows Update changed something, but that's just a guess.
