For Anyone with 54mbps wireless N issuess
I thought I would let people know how I solved my issues as it really annoyed me and I didn't seem to find similar solutions anywhere else.
I knew the problem was not with the router as my other laptop was connected at 450mbps and this laptop should connect at 300mbps but was stuck at 54mbps.
When I disabled and re-enabled the adapter then the speed was back to 300mbps but when I put the machine to sleep and woke it again, it was back at 54mbps.
Obviously this was not ideal.
I went into the adapter settings to compare and they were identical except I found an additional option with the laptop having the problem.
Right click on the adapter settings - select status - click properties - click configure - click advanced tab and there may be the option to select preferred band.
Mine was no preference but make sure it is 5Ghz.
