W7x32pro will access network drive but x64ult won't!

Hi folks,

I have two Windows 7 PCs on my network, both pretty new. One is a workstation running Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit, the other a laptop running Windows 7 Professional 32-bit. Both have always been mine, and for both I have done no "tinkering" I am aware of to mess up any standard out-of-the-box settings regarding network security etc.

I am currently trying to set up backups from both machines to a newly-purchased LaCie NetworkSpace2 NAS drive. To do this, I set up "shares" on the LaCie drive, one for each of the two PCs:

> The 32-bit laptop running Windows 7 Pro works perfectly, exactly as it should; when I access it's share, a dialogue box asks me for user name and password, once these are input I can use the drive no problem (and the backup is running as we speak).

> The 64-bit workstation running Windows 7 ultimate simply will not connect. It's not something daft like I forgot the password I set up - I've played with multiple shares now. It's also not basic connectivity: I can ping the network drive, I can access its configuration and management utility via a browser on my LAN (from anywhere on my LAN), and even the "OpenShare" - a built-in share which does not require authentication by the user - works fine. It's only when I need to access a defined user share with a user name and password.

Note which may help:

1. My workstation is configured to be part of a workgroup (not a domain) called "WILF".

2. I notice, which may or may not be relevant, that when the login box pops up on the workstation, there is a reference to "Domain: ALASTAIR-WS" (note that 'ALASTAIR-WS' is the machine name of my workstation).

The attached PDF shows the relevant windows. Hope it helps.

Any assistance gratefully received as this backup is terrifyingly overdue!

Thanks

Alastair
