Windows 7: Win 7 Network Setup Blues

Win 7 Network Setup Blues

Dear All

Firstly, I'm new here and have now trawled through about 20 threads with no luck.
So if my problem seems familiar, feel free to redirect me somewhere...

I have just installed Win 7 Home Premium on two computers that is connected (hardwired) through a common modem/router.
All I want to do is share files between the two.

When I click on Network (in Explorer) I can see the other computer. (I can also see all computers on the "Complete Network Map").

When I'm working on Computer A, and then choose Computer B in explorer, I can even see the folders that I shared, but if I click on those I get: "You do not have permission to access... Contact administrator..."

When I'm working on Computer B, and click on Computer A (in explorer) I get a popup asking for username and password. I have no idea what this could be as I do not use a password on any machine and password protected sharing is turned off on both machines.

I have also tried the new Homegroup thing with no luck. When I have to join the Homegroup on the 2nd PC (after creating a new Homegroup on the 1st PC) it just states that there are no Homegroup to join.

This problem is really driving me mad, and any help will be greatly appreciated!!
Regards, and thanks in advance
Andrew

Try setting a password on both accounts, I've seen this happen before when the account didn't have a password set up, even tho it looked like it was set up correctly otherwise...

If adding the user password doesn't do it, go into the shared folders' Property sheets and add Everyone to both Share Permissions (Sharing tab, Advanced button) and Security permissions. Under advanced Share permissions you can fine tune "Everyone's" access rights once they're in. You may need a reboot.

I wish I could buy you a beer!!!
Thanks a million - So far the two Win 7 PCs can now see each other!
Will work on the Win XP machine tomorrow.

I have read so much about sharing on Win 7 (literally hours of browsing) and has never read about the trick with changing the settings under the security tab - I would not have figured that out by myself in a hundred years (So much for Microsoft providing a user friendly environment...)

Thanks again
Andrew
