Forwarding External IP Address to Intranet Router

Hey guys I was wondering if anyone knew a way to forward the external IP address to an intranet router, port forwarding doesn't seem to work and even with DMZ the required result does not work.
it seems the DIR-615 needs the external IP address in order to update the DYNDNS setting, much searching has resulted in a fruitless waste of time.
Any Ideas?
