Windows 7: net use command mapped drives wont show till reboot

when i add a mapped drive in the gui it shows up straight away.

but when i use net use *\\pc-1\shared



it creates successfully but wont show up until i restart the comp

Is this common as ive seen it done where it will show up straight away

computer is windows 7 ultimate 64, this also seems to be happening on my virtual machines as well
