Slaving old desktop PC to my new laptop

I am trying to find information on what is required to slave my old PC, running Windows XP, to my new laptop, which is running Windows 7 Home Premium. I came across a post on the web, saying that all you'd need is a crossover USB connecter. Is that all I need, or will I need some kind of software to allow me to control the old computer, and delegate slow tasks to it, from my laptop?

I would appreciate any help or advice anyone has to offer. I am not trying to slave the hard drive, in order to transfer files - which is all I can seem to find information for on this site. I want to actually create a slave computer.

You could use a crossover ethernet cable to network the 2 computers then you could use something like Remote Desktop or VNC to control the XP PC from the Win 7 PC.

You won't be able to "delegate" slow tasks to the XP computer from the Win 7 computer though. All you can do is setup the slower applications on the XP computer and start and stop them from the Win 7 computer using Remote Desktop, VNC, CrossLoop, GOtoMyPC, etc.

    Thanks.

I'll get a crossover cable, and check out the software you mentioned.
