Windows 7 pro cannot access router setup

I have just received a new window 7 pro computer. I have a net gear 3400 router. When i run the setup cd it tells me router is unresponsive. I put in 192.168.1.1. In URL it hangs I can access some sites except www.microsoft. com and Allentown, Lehigh Valley news from The Morning Call and mcall.com - mcall.com are just two. Router has been reset numerous times and has latest firmware. I was on the phone with net gear for five hours no help. I can ping router ok. I move it to my old xp machine everything works great. This all through wired connection. Have changed all cables. Bybass router all is ok. Net gear says it is something with windows 7 computer.
    Please help
    Thanks

Do you have a firewall setup on your Windows 7 machine?
Check your firewall settings or turn off the firewall and see if you can then access the router.
Also check you IE security settings.

Check your router settings and make sure no access control list is blocking your new machine, somewhere be it your router or the pc some security settings is preventing you access.

Well after 5 hours with Netgear Thursday andy 7 hours with Polywell today the problem has finally been resolved. I tried restore disk no luck, did a clean install of windows 7 and now all is working. The only difference is I am using IE 8 instead of 9, but because it also did it with Firefox I don't think it was a browser.
Not bad from a new box with only a couple of programs installed.
Thanks to all for your replies and help.
I hope I don't have to go through this again.
    Happy New Year to all
