Cant change unidentified network to work network

Ive just installed W7 7600 HP on to one of our work PC's and it says its connected to an unidentified network. I cant change it to work network or even Home network but the strange thing is its working fine. All our other PC's can see it and share files on it etc and i have internet access on it.
This is the second time ive installed HP and the second time this has happened. In the past ive been using Ultimate and this didn't happen.
We use static IP addresses for our internal network with no DNS server.

Anyone got any ideas how i can change this network location. Im using HP as im testing it out for when my copy arrives in Oct but if this is a problem related to HP i might think again.

Cheers.

Dave.

Sorry, i really dont remember what i did.
I just kept clicking on things and after a while it all worked ok (and still is).

Hope you get yours sorted. If i do remember anything ill post back but as its all working there isnt anyway i can test it out.
Ive only had this happen once on our work network, its not something ive come across since.

Make sure your router firmware is up-to-date. We upgrade all the drivers in our PC for Windows 7 but forget to upgrade the router firmware. I upgraded my router firmware and all those unidentified network problems went away. It is much easier than forcing windows 7 to work with an out-dated router firmware. I wish this forgotten upgrade of the router is promulgated by Microsoft. Consequently many of us wasted a lot of time on this one.

Hmmm, i guess thats good advice but im also thinking its not the real answer.
I've done many upgrades and never had to update a routers FW, and some routers are quite old.
In fact not all the networks ive installed W7 have had a router. A couple have just had switches with no internet connection.

Upgrade router firmware to fix unidentified network problem. This solution is not obvious because most old computers work fine. Only those ones with newer NIC card or combination of wireless and wired connection exhibit consistent or intermittent unidentified network problem.

I'm assuming that you are only talking about the name of the network. I was having issues with this also and just today found on this forum (Thank you) that all you need to do is point to the icon for the network and left click. Then choose "change name" and then it'll at least show as the name of your network. Hope this helps
