How would I set up my xp desktop so that I can connect the desktop with an Ethernet cable to the win7 laptop that has internet so that the xp desktop can go online?

Well, the Windows 7 computer has to have two network cards.. Combination of 2 Wifi, 2 NIC or 1 NIC - 1 Wifi

One of the NIC card has to receive the internet source.

Then you can use this website to set up something called ICS (Internet Connection Sharing)

What type of internet service do you have? If possible, your best bet is to just get a router.

im in college, so internet is no problem is for me.

oh well. im waiting for a wireless adapter from newegg that i brought
