Hello everyone. I am having a very frustrating issue with my internet/wifi connection. I live in a apartment complex and luckily for me, I don't have to pay for internet. A local resident (not the office of the apartment complex itself) has his/her internet access open and allows those with proper reception to connect to the "wifi" so long as they accept a user agreement. The user uses something called "Rocktrix", whatever that is (could be something he or she made up just to display the agreement).
I have been able to connect to the internet and play online games with excellent signal strength ever since my girlfriend and I moved into this complex, however a couple days ago when I tried to connect to the internet, the browser (Firefox) took much longer than usual to open up and when it did, took even longer to try and connect only to end up giving me an error message saying the "Connection was reset". Meanwhile, looking at the wireless indicator on my tool bar, I still have excellent signal strength and my girlfriend is still able to connect to the same SSID just fine!
I have tried running cmd as admin, releasing and renewing the ip as well as flushing the dns, didnt work. I have tried updating drivers
, all are up to date. I have tried restarting my laptop, turning the wifi off and on again, even changed obtain ip automatically to a set IP address that matches the Rocktrix address I found in my address bar (Rocktrix: 192.168.2.1, set mine to 192.168.2.101)!
This has been frustrating me to no end and I feel I have run out of options here. I can almost bet that if I can just unplug the access point and plug it back in my problem would be fixed, but sadly I don't have that luxury. What in the world is happening here!?
*I am able to connect to other networks just fine. Such as a much weaker public network here in the complex as well as my schools network.
