I've got the free version of Avast Anti-Virus installed, and Windows Firewall. When I tried to reconnect earlier I disabled them but it didn't make any difference unfortunately - I was still getting Error 105, and the troubleshooter returned another 'Default Gateway is not Available' - elsewhere in the building the internet connection is apparently fine, but I know very few people here to ask.
Let's uninstall Avast for now and use this Utility Tool:
avast! Uninstall Utility
Also, please find a spare patch network cable, cat5e or cat6, borrow one if possible.

Thanks again :), but I'm still having the same problem, even after removing Avast.
I've tried my spare CAT5E cable, as well as the one I was given by the property manager this year - I'm still not able to connect using them, still an Error 105 in Chrome. I've used IE and that doesn't connect either - my flatmate uses Firefox and he has the same problem.

Can we see another ipconfig /all when logged on to Ubuntu, of course coming from a working computer?
I'm running Ubuntu off a CD (I've not installed using Wubi or dual-booted as I'm not overly familiar with that kind of thing, and I'm not the most advanced computer user unfortunately) - I've run the ifconfig command and it comes up with this.

Oh...I found something....the default Gateway from your Ubuntu is different from your Windows. Let's manually assign IP to your LAN. How to Assign a Static IP Address in XP, Vista, or Windows 7 - How-To Geek
Please use this pattern:
IPv4 Address: 31.220.243.54
Default Gateway :31.220.243.255
Subnet Mask : 255.255.255.0
DNS Servers: 77.244.128.60
77.244.128.61
If there's any IP Conflict just change the last digit to a 6, 7, etc.... 31.220.243.54
Thanks for your help again :) but I'm still having issues I'm afraid - I ran the troubleshooter - same old thing again with the 'Default Gateway is not Available', as well as the 'DCHP is not enabled' issue which was a first for the troubleshooter as it's not come up with that previously on this connection...

Can you pls assign the Static IP to your room mate's computer? You've mentioned that he has the same issue as yours. Are you able to replicate the issue?
From your computer let's do some ping tests and post the results on your next post.
Open up a command prompt and type ping 31.220.243.255 press enter
Another one....ping 8.8.8.8 press enter

I won't be giving up just yet! :) Neither of us are at the flat at the moment, he's in London and I've gone home for a few days as I don't live too far away - I'll be back there soon to test the connection out once more, and he'll be back shortly too. :)
By the way, Linux is now running as a virtual boot on my laptop, instead of running off the disc (correct term? it's been installed through Wubi but I'm not sure what the technical term is for that kind of thing) - I tried to connect to the internet in the flat earlier on before I went for my train and it worked after unplugging the CAT5E cable at both ends then reconnecting it.

I'm back in my accommodation now, and the internet has finally come on when running on Windows 7!
All of us from the flat went down to complain yesterday, and it appears our ISP have reset all the connections or something (I'm not amazingly technical with networks yet! haha)
